Most people who follow the development of Windows 11 were not happy when they found out that Microsoft is testing advertising in the file explorer.

It was apparently not the intention to reveal this now
One thing is advertising in programs you use now and then, but something else is the file explorer which is a basic function in the OS. Microsoft has now stated to The Verge:

 

Brandon LeBlanc is "senior program manager for Windows", and says that this was an experimental banner. It was not intended to be published externally and it was deactivated ".

 

It is a non-response in many ways, but maybe Microsoft has taken the criticism and now chooses to scrap the stunt?

 

This is not the first time
We see it as unlikely that something so troublesome can increase additional sales. This is not the first time Microsoft has used the Windows interface to promote their own products: they did the same thing in 2017 in Windows 10 when they promoted OneDrive in File Explorer.

 

There is probably a reason why this later disappeared. In 2016, advertising for Minions appeared on the opening screen.
